Parent Advocates

Our Volunteer Parent Advocates undergo an extensive screening and interview process where it is determined whether they have the natural abilities required to be an effective advocate. They then participate in an intensive two day training workshop where they further develop skills in communication and conflict resolution.

It’s important to note that our advocates are not mediators. Mediation is a separate skill set which requires two parties to negotiate an agreement between them. The Advocacy Project acts as a resource and support to help a parent achieve resolution which is meaningful to them and which makes sense when dealing with a concern within the education system in Manitoba.
